The July 2008 issue - out now!

Well the mixed weather we have been experiencing recently didn’t hamper the Lincolnshire Show I am pleased to say! Thousands of visitors flocked through the gates over the two days and I was pleased to meet so many of our readers in our marquee.

In this issue, we relax and unwind by the sea as Talk of the Town visits our county coastline. Skegness celebrates one hundred years of the Jolly Fisherman and David Robinson reveals how the coastline was formed.

I had the privilege of visiting a master saddler in Fulbeck, who is continuing this long-standing craft. The traditional techniques are still used to repair and create all types of leather goods. This fascinating trade has won Mark Bushell several awards and a nationwide reputation for his work.

We are also launching this year’s County Cuisine Awards 2008/9. Included in the magazine is a form for you to use to nominate the best place you have found to dine in the county. The categories range from coffee shops to fine restaurants and the three finalists in each category will be the result of the establishments you nominate.

We start a new series in this month’s magazine which looks at the events surrounding an episode of Time Team. Filmed in the county, we look at how it all came about as the result of discoveries made by local metal detecting enthusiast, Keith Kelway.

Our continuing series on Living Postcards has some fascinating pictures of county market places in times gone by. Don’t forget, on this national site which has been born locally, you can add your old pictures and postcards to the archive for the public to see - this is a great way to keep memories and images alive.

Finally, we have some great competitions this month, so should you wish to attend Waddington Air Show or the prestigious Burghley Horse Trials, you could be the lucky winner of some tickets. There is also a competition to win a pair of exclusive VIP tickets to meet Hayley Westenra and Aled Jones as they perform at Lincoln Castle this summer – Good luck!
