Welcome to the August issue of Lincolnshire Life, which as always is full to the brim of county news, stories and history. Our Talk of the Town this month is the county capital, Lincoln. Our beautiful cathedral city has undergone a £1.2 million transformation in the Bailgate area and has a fantastic array of summertime events planned. Why not take your family to the beach as thirty tonnes of real seaside sand arrives in the city! Other activities include Punch and Judy and craft stalls and sporting events.
Also in this issue, Steffie Shields applauds the creation of a new community garden in Horncastle to honour the life of Sir Joseph Banks, eighteenth century explorer, naturalist and founding President of the Royal Horticultural Society. As one of the county’s favourite sons, the garden is a fitting tribute.
Scunthorpe is famed for its association with the steel industry and may soon be getting the green light for a brand new Marine Energy Park. We look at its propects of being given the go-ahead and the possibility of creating many jobs on the site, resulting in a welcome boost to the local economy.
Our county personality this month is the Lincs FM breakfast host, John Marshall. John talks about his plans to have a long-awaited lie-in as he begins a new show at a more appealing time slot of 10am! He reflects on his years spent in broadcasting and shares his favourite moments with readers.
We also continue our series on the Theatre Royal, Lincoln as I met the cast of a forthcoming play, Murdered to Death. This Agatha Christie based spoof features some well-loved stars of stage and screen and provides a highly entertaining way to spend your evening.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the summertime and do enjoy the many events in and around the county this August.
