Tommy Lidgett was born in 1844 at Cherry Valley Farm in Rothwell, now world famous for its duck production. When he was five he walked every day to school at Caistor, a round trip of some seven miles.
On 4th August 1914 Great Britain declared war on Germany and Austria, allied to one another through a treaty and known as The Central Powers, mobilising her small army of around 400,000 regular and territorial battalions that included five battalions from Lincolnshire.
Here we are, now into July, and those of us who engage in country sports, particularly hunting and shooting, are already looking ahead to the coming season, with grouse shooting on 12th August and partridges and ducks on 1st September.
