Lincs FM, the area’s most listened to commercial radio station, is definitely in the Christmas spirit now.

You’ll have noticed from 1st December that Mariah Carey, Sir Cliff Richard, Noddy Holder et al have all started singing their festive hits once again on the station, as it prepares to welcome Santa to Lincolnshire and Newark come 25th December.

The presenters all agree that Christmas is one of the best times of the year to be on the radio. As plenty of others wind down and take a break, in radio it’s business very much as normal; around the clock, with Christmas Eve and Christmas Day being special dates on the Calendar, tracking Santa as he heads for the area. Presenter Rob Hammond will be sharing his Christmas morning with listeners once again, helping open presents, reminding you to get the Turkey in the oven and playing a great mix of music for all the family.

He told Lincolnshire Life: “To be a part of so many people’s Christmas mornings is such an honour. We get so many people calling in, especially children telling us what Father Christmas has delivered and wanting us to wish their family and friends a Happy Christmas. The phone doesn’t stop ringing. I’ll be in my own festive jumper and might even have an extra present or two to give away as well, if Santa has been extra generous underneath the Lincs FM Christmas Tree!”

Rob will mostly be delighted just to be on the radio, away from the public gaze, as the week before Christmas you might see him dressed as an elf in a Scunthorpe shop window! It’s punishment for losing his recent Rob vs Joseph challenge on Lincs FM. Rob competed against Evening presenter Joseph Begley (featured in Lincolnshire Life a couple of months ago) in a series of challenges, including a test of Lincolnshire dialect and helping Lincolnshire Police make an arrest! Joseph won, so as loser Rob has to sit in the shop window in his Christmas Elf outfit! What a sight that will be. No doubt there will be photos on the Lincs FM website just in time for Christmas.

The festive period actually starts earlier than December for Lincs FM, with the team helping to light up the area at various Christmas light switch-ons throughout November. You might have seen them in shopping centres across the area, including Gainsborough, Lincoln, Grimsby, Skegness, Boston, Louth, Kirton in Lindsey, Sleaford, Brigg and Scunthorpe.

Of course, now December is here and with the New Year just around the corner, thoughts turn to possible bad weather. Forecasters have predicted we could be in for a harsh winter ahead, so the Lincs FM team are also busy preparing themselves for whatever the weather should throw at them – be it school closures, travel problems and the like. The station’s revamped its smartphone app just for the occasion too, with special ‘push notifications’ planned, should the weather take a turn for the worst.
