The Range Rover Sport needs little introduction, being one of the great vehicles on which Land Rover’s reputation has been built. With over four decades of pedigree and progress behind it, it’s no wonder the Range Rover Sport is ‘the business’ and one of the most magnificent, smartest models on the roads today.

With nice proportions and discretely elegant styling, the design could be a big reason to buy one. Many competitors have tried to emulate its winning combination of luxury, ruggedness, go-anywhere versatility and performance aptitude - but, needless to say, its rivals have not succeeded.

The Range Rover remains ‘sui generis’. A situation that is unlikely, if ever, to change because it’s built on strong foundations and more than good enough. And how much more than ‘good enough’ becomes too much for our needs?

As the Range Rover Sport proves, things are getting better all the time as mouths are still made to water and we are kept salivating for more. The giddy climb continues as tier upon tier of supplementary systems, electronic toys, electrical adjustments and mechanical elaborations are incorporated as worthwhile improvements. These include such as the cost extra, active rear locking differential, adaptive cruise control and DVD twin screen rear entertainment system.

What most buyers want from one of these vehicles though is the visibility and security that comes from the high build; the ability to keep going through modest floods, snow or muddy tracks; and the feel-good factor generated by having a high status vehicle that shouts ‘interesting lifestyle’.

Sit at the wheel of many large 4x4s and you know you’re in a luxury vehicle. Sit at the wheel of the new £52,045 Range Rover Sport and it’s like the bridge of the Starship Enterprise with added comfort. The phrase ‘height of luxury’ springs immediately to mind. The interior demonstrates style, refinement, safety and high specification with a long list of standard equipment. But it’s not just the comfort and features on the inside that earn the accolade, it’s a nifty mover too!

The Range Rover Sport might not come with a country estate thrown in but lucky owners are likely to feel that way. The latest model, larger and grander than before, nevertheless manages to convey good taste and elegance.
