You may have already read in this month’s issue that Coleman’s Restaurant in Brigg was announced as the winner of the Lincolnshire Life Cuisine Awards, House of Townend Best Restaurant for 2010/11.

What a warm welcome we received as soon as we stepped into the main bar of the Royal Oak. Plenty of snow was still lying on the fields and ridges of ice on the roads so it was good to walk into this cosy pub on Sunday lunchtime. Emma Bilenky, the landlady met us and showed us around the pub which she and her friendly team have made a focus of village life.

For over 250 years The Bull and Swan, no. 25 High Street, St Martins, has been a well known Stamford landmark. While the old stone walls and mullion windows may well remain familiar for another 250 years or more, inside is a different story.
