The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials is Lincolnshire’s best attended event. Like a swan it is magnificent to look at and the ease with which it glides along hides a powerhouse of energy and activity.
What a great month it was in June with the County Show, Brocklesby Show and a really heavy diary of events covering just about every equestrian interest you can think of. What is so totally amazing is that if you thought June was busy, take a look at July! There is so much on that you don’t have time to take the saddle off! Happy horse days!
So, here we are again. It’s Lincolnshire Show month and each year we think it cannot get any better and yet it surprises us every time. This year the riding and the showing classes promise to be tougher than ever so even being there and taking part is an honour in itself. In fact it is a privilege to have such a show on our doorstep - see you there… and let’s hope we leave the umbrellas in the car!
May brings us the first of the big shows and we’re all looking forward to the Newark and Nottinghamshire County Show on Saturday and Sunday 14th and 15th May. That really does herald the start of the season and for those of us with equestrian things in mind there is plenty to see and do. So on with the show!
Philip Herbert calls the Burghley Estate’s rolling parkland his home. His involvement with The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials dates back to the early 1980s, when as a rookie professional course-builder, he was asked to lend a hand at the great event.
