Lest we forget
Social Life - 1st May25,611 Bomber Command aircrew lost their lives flying from airfields in Lincolnshire during World War Two, 46% of the Command’s losses. The memorial on the top of Canwick Hill, Lincoln marks their sacrifice, and the sterling efforts of all who served in the air and on the ground. In addition, the memorial honours the many Lincolnshire men and women who served in Bomber Command outside the county, and will inform generations to come of their courage and dedication. The site overlooks Lincoln Cathedral, a major landmark for crews leaving Lincolnshire and a navigation point for those lucky enough to return.
