Lincolnshire’s rural membership body, the CLA, says that buying meat from a trusted local butcher is the best way to guarantee that what you want is what you get.

In light of recent high-profile food scares, the CLA believes that the benefits of a knowledgeable local butcher far outweigh any perceived financial savings made by purchasing pre-packed meat.
CLA East spokesman, Tim Barnes-Clay explained: “The public has a right to know where the food on their plate comes from. Rules on food labeling exist but they are too confusing. It is up to the Government to properly enforce existing labelling so consumer confidence in the food chain can be restored.

“Local butchers choose their meat carefully, and take great pride in knowing exactly where it comes from, often to a particular farm or herd. They have the knowledge to prepare meat, poultry or game the best way, and can even advise you how to cook it. You can buy just as much as you need, rather than having to buy the size that’s available, cutting down on food waste and food miles.”

The CLA also stressed that shopping locally benefits the local economy, protecting jobs and services for the community.

Mr Barnes-Clay added: “Food should not be a commodity item that you buy because it’s the only choice available. You know what’s best for you and your family and the only way to guarantee that you get the best quality, the right cut and the correct amount is to talk to a butcher.” Call in to your local butcher today.

The pigs are reared on stone ground meal, milled at our eighteenth-century watermill, Maxey Mill, on the River Welland. All pork cuts can be prepared to your order and specification and delivered to you from our butchery which is purpose-built to EEC standards. Our specialities include dry cured bacon and hams and an authentic Lincolnshire sausage.

RH PAPWORTH, WOODHALL SPA
RH Papworth Butchers in Woodhall Spa has been established for fifty-five years and is owned by Mr Papworth, who was born in Woodhall Spa. All meats are locally produced and sourced. RH Papworth also has a licence for game. Our famous Lincolnshire Sausages are a favourite and are served up on many menus all over the country, all prepared on the premises using our own unique recipe many have tried to copy.
