If you have always wanted to experience the joys of modern classic and prestige motoring, Thurlby Motors extend an invitation to view their outstanding collection of vehicles.

Lincolnshire always has the ability to come up with new surprises and one of the hidden gems of the county’s motoring sector must be Thurlby Motors, based in Alford and Louth. Owner Richard Walsh has been working in the industry since his teens and grabbed the opportunity to run his own business with both hands when he was one of the buyers of Thurlby Motors in 1981.

Independent family business
“We were a Vauxhall dealership until 2016 and we now specialise in independent sales and service for all marques at our branches,” said Richard. “We are a highly knowledgeable and experienced team here and those skills are invaluable when it comes to customer service and the prestige and premium cars we have in our showroom.”
Richard has daughters Alison and Abigail working alongside him; Alison is in service with Jo Maddison while Abigail is in accounts with finance director Gail Smith. “We perhaps have more females here than many dealerships. We find customers really appreciate that.”

A classic collection
Recently Richard has extended the choice of modern classic and prestige vehicles which Thurlby Motors have in stock. The showrooms at Alford house more than 70 vehicles which must be one of the largest collections in the country. “Owning a modern classic is well within the budget of many motorists and they all reflect an individuality which is lacking on forecourts now.
“Our price range starts from £3,000 and extends up to £100,000. We have a 2000 Mazda MX5 convertible in red, automatic at £2,995 and at the other end of the spectrum a two-tone Austin Healey 3000 priced at £95,000. They are both super cars which will give hours of motoring pleasure to their owners.
“With specialist insurance companies offering competitive costs for cover, there need not be excessive expense running these vehicles.”

Eye-catching choice
There are certainly vehicles with ‘head turning’ ability amongst the choice. ‘Characterful and powerful’ would describe the 1959 BMW Isetta, three-wheeled bubble car priced at £18,995. Modern classics which hold plenty of nostalgia and kudos for young and older drivers include a highly original 1978 VW Golf priced at £13,995 or a 1974 VW Beetle priced at £7,995. Prestige marques feature strongly including Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, Lotus and Jaguar.
Richard has enjoyed researching the provenance of these cars too. “Each vehicle has its unique quality but back stories too. We have a 2005 Ford Mustang convertible which was shipped from Miami by Nokia for use in a promotion with the boy band JLS on their tour. We have pictures of the car in the arena with the band on board. It is priced at £17,995.”

Take a refreshing drive out
There is certainly a unique range of vehicles to consider and Richard and his team are open every day ready to show you around. At weekends there is a new Coffee Trailer serving drinks and light refreshments to customers, either from the grassed area alongside the showroom or within the showroom itself if the weather is bad. “We know people have probably driven a distance to see us, so having the Coffee Trailer is a way of making their visit more welcoming and relaxing. We also have the most beautiful views across this part of the Wolds from our site so it is the chance to enjoy those too.”

Here to welcome you 7 days a week
Opening hours at both of Thurlby Motors’ locations are Monday to Friday 8am–6pm, Saturday 8am–5pm and Sunday 10am–4pm. “Locally we are already known for our experienced and friendly staff. We have built trust with our customers as a family business and our technicians have many years’ experience servicing these premium vehicles. If you want to invest in these classics, I am sure we have a vehicle which will put pleasure into your motoring. There’s nowhere else in Lincolnshire you can see fifteen different Porsche models under one roof. We even have two or three which would be ideal projects for further restoration. Come out for the day to Alford to see us soon.”
