GET FIRED UP FOR THE BBQ SEASON
The School of Artisan Food based at the Welbeck Estate runs courses designed to educate on the art of barbecuing and food smoking.

Everyone hears of or experiences the horrors of burnt sausages or undercooked chicken at least once each summer. The Fire & Smoke – BBQ Cooking course, led by expert butcher Chris Moorby along with his son Tom, lasts one day and is aimed at those wanting to avoid these common mistakes and become a master of alfresco dining.

Very much a hands-on experience, the attendees are given a light breakfast and lunch because later everyone will sit down to share the BBQ food they have made and cooked. This is an informal and enjoyable day with lots of banter amongst the group. To start two sauces/marinades are prepared; a classic BBQ sauce and secondly a chimichurri sauce, both recipes created by Tom Moorby.

Chris guides the group through making their own Argentinian BBQ sausages, including the mincing and forming the Cumberland sausage shape. After lunch and a talk on selecting which charcoal and woods to use for particular effects, such as hot or cold smoking, a Jacob’s Ladder of smokey ribs was made. Tom and Chris are experts at showing the versatility of outdoor cooking, preparing a ‘Dirty’ fillet steak directly on the coals, demonstrating beer can chicken and spatchcock poussin.

It was not meat all the way – recipes for stuffed sea bass, salmon parcels and vegan sweetcorn skewers were also shared and a last tip for the budding BBQ maestros was to place a foil tray of brownie mix on the coals to cook while guests enjoyed their first courses.

The one essential piece of equipment which was recommended, apart from a BBQ of some shape or size, was a meat thermometer. A great investment for any cook, it takes away any doubt about that undercooked chicken and the associated risks. Fire & Smoke – BBQ Cooking makes a great gift or day out to remember and is priced at £195 per person including meals, ingredients, a group photograph of the day and eco bag.

AN ARTIFICIAL LAWN COULD BE THE SOLUTION TO YOUR ALLERGY WOES
Approximately 13 million people in the UK are affected by allergic rhinitis, better known as hay fever, 95% of whom are specifically allergic to the pollen that’s present in grass.

Here at LazyLawn®, we’ve put together just a few reasons why more people, especially those who are affected by hay fever, should consider ditching natural grass for an artificial lawn.

POLLEN FREE
While a well-loved lawn won’t go to seed and therefore will not produce pollen, the powdery substance can settle on the grass and is released back into the air when you’re mowing. Synthetic grass is an excellent, low maintenance solution, relieving you from lawnmowing duties when the pollen count is at its highest.

NEEDS LESS ATTENTION
Natural grass demands lots of TLC but with an artificial lawn, all you will need to do to keep it in tip-top condition is remove leaves and debris, as well as give it a brushing every once in a while with a stiff brush and an occasional weed application.

VERY DURABLE
Because it is so durable, artificial grass is able to withstand a variety of activities, meaning there’s plenty of fun to be had without the fear of unwanted hay fever symptoms. It is also weather-proof.

Kyle Cassidy, local Licensee for LazyLawn®, said: “Our products can go a long way towards minimising its effects and limiting your exposure to grass pollen, creating a hay fever-free haven in your own garden.”

Earnshaws’ North Lincolnshire Centre, at Brigg, is a one-stop shop for gardening and landscaping enthusiasts. Visitors can browse extensive and imaginative displays of timber fencing, garden sheds, cabins, summerhouses, garden furniture, decking, gates and landscaping ideas.

In addition, there are seasonally selected ranges of gardener’s gifts, garden art, stone ornaments, planters, troughs, chimeneas and fire pits. There is something for everyone, all year round.

At this time of year, the emphasis is on the outdoor lifestyle and in particular alfresco dining. Earnshaws have developed a garden furniture range to ensure that whatever you have in mind for your alfresco experience, they have got it covered. From picnic tables, to benches, arches and arbours, you’ll be amazed at what you can find to make the most of your garden this summer.

Garden cabins are a speciality and Earnshaws can design and build a fully bespoke garden room from scratch – the only limit is your imagination and there are several displays at Brigg to inspire you.

A broad range of landscaping materials are in stock – all available for delivery in bulk. For paths and borders they stock a variety of log rolls and paving, for flower beds they have bark chippings. Decorative aggregates and gravel include Cotswold chippings, Portland pebbles and Pea gravel. For screening, choose from two sizes of woven willow panels.

Earnshaws have had a presence in Brigg since the 1920s and they are the north’s largest supplier of timber fencing. Hardly surprising that they know their stuff, and there is always someone on hand to offer tips and advice.

Only minutes from the M180, Brigg is easily accessible to visitors from East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. They also offer a delivery service, usually 2-3 working days, and if schedules allow they will deliver the same day!

AMAZING AND UNIQUE PERGOLAS FOR YOUR GARDEN
We may have been lulled by last year’s brilliant weather into believing that the UK summer has become Mediterranean. Not quite, as we are now seeing, but creating a space in your garden which is ideal for alfresco entertaining throughout the year is now possible. Each pergola is made to measure in the Brustor Factory in Belgium to make a unique addition to your home. From free quotation to survey and installation, Rase Outdoor Living will take care of the project to your complete satisfaction.

The company is also a supplier of stylish and functional parasols suitable for a wide variety of domestic and commercial uses. If you recently visited Chelsea Flower Show you would have seen the company’s stand on one of the main avenues.
