Lincolnshire Life August 2018 - Digital Copy
What a scorcher of a summer it has been so far – too hot for some of us, but the sun has really brought the crowds out at the shows across the county. Lincolnshire Life was at Lincolnshire Show, Woodhall Spa 40s Festival and Brocklesby Country Fair amongst many other events recently and we have plenty of pictures which capture the fun and spectacle.
Another date for your diary is Bank Holiday Sunday, when Grimsthorpe Castle will host the new Vintage Speed Trials. Our feature on page 84 gives you the background and invites you to go along, to enter into the spirit of the Edwardian era of motoring, which the day will recreate.
The late Sir Simon Marsden was an internationally acclaimed photographer who took a particular interest in the supernatural. His images of architecture and old buildings especially, using darkroom skills and techniques to enhance the atmosphere and haunting qualities of his imagery, are why you still find his photographs in galleries such as the V&A and the Getty Museum. A new film about his legacy will be released this month. Read more on page 34.
I visited Lincolnshire chef Rachel Green at her home in the Wolds where she produced three dishes for our recipe pages this month. They are perfect for a summer picnic or alfresco supper with friends. Rachel used the stunningly beautiful and vividly orange-yoked British Blue eggs produced by county based egg producers LJ Fairburn. You can find Rachel’s recipes on page 60 and by coincidence Kate Chapman was interviewing LJ Fairburn’s MD Daniel Fairburn who as well as running the family business is also training to run two gruelling marathons in aid of Farm Africa. Turn to page 62 to learn more.
Lincolnshire Life will be at Revesby Country Fair on Sunday 5th August so we look forward to meeting you there.
Finally, the clock is counting down for you to send in your nominations for our Taste of Excellence Food, Drink and Hospitality Awards 2018. Our deadline is 31st August, so while you are out and about this month be sure to let us know the eateries, inns, cafes and accommodation which have really impressed you.
