Lincolnshire Life December 2015 - Digital Copy
I begin with the sound of laughter, singing, clapping and cheering still ringing in my ears from our very enjoyable Lincolnshire Food and Drink Awards evening, held at Oaklands Hall Hotel. Thank you to all our guests for making it such a fun celebration and to Steve Bennett and his team for producing the most delicious meal.
We were there to celebrate outstanding businesses and their staff in the food, drink and hospitality sectors and their achievements over the past year. Our sixteen page supplement, which begins on page 83, features all our winners and finalists. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors and supporters, without whom we would not have been able to seek our nominations, stage our cook-offs, send out our judges or stage the evening.
The weather seems to have finally caught up with the season and that frosty nip in the air has jolted me into a Christmas mood. We have plenty of inspiring gift ideas in our bumper Christmas Gift Guide, and our Christmas in Lincolnshire supplement has a guide to county festivities, where to find Father Christmas and the best attractions in your area.
Dominic Franks has produced a wonderful alternative to the traditional Christmas cake from his Belleau Kitchen. His Chocolate Carrot Cake has all the spicy zing with none of the heaviness of a conventional fruit cake.
Steffie Shields has focused on how fauna and foliage can make gifts and memories in your home this Christmas. Certainly wreaths and decorated tress add to the magic but it can be more fleeting experiences which can make heartwarming recollections years later.
For many, Christmas can also be a lonely time. If you have a neighbour or friend you have not spoken to recently, ring their doorbell, send them a card or make a phone call to get in touch. Memories are extra special if they can be shared.
Finally, be sure to call us before 18th December to order a Gift Subscription for either Lincolnshire Life or The Lincolnshire Poacher. We send out a special card for you to give on Christmas Day and our January issue will be posted shortly after.
Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas.
