Lincolnshire Life December 2016 - Digital Copy
We are certainly gearing up for the festive season and I hope we can inspire your gift giving, food and wine choices and Christmas celebrations with this bumper issue.
I was invited to Doddington Hall as they began to decorate rooms with tableaux on the theme of well known fairytales. I chose my tree from amongst the hundreds they raise on a planation on the estate each year. The Elizabethan hall is open for the public to experience the magical atmosphere they have created. You can read more on page 36.
Here at Lincolnshire Life we are champions of the finest food, drink and hospitality our county has to offer. Last month, I was a judge and then host at two of the flagship Lincolnshire award ceremonies. The Poacher Competition is held every two years to find the best butchers and bakers across the region. You can read the report and full results on page 116.
The magazine’s ‘Taste of Excellence’ Food and Drink Awards 2016 were held at The Oaklands Hall Hotel, Laceby at the beginning of last month. Over 200 guests threw themselves wholeheartedly into our Street Party theme and enjoyed fabulous food produced by The Lincolnshire Chef, Steve Bennett and his team and sang along to music by singing duo The DreamBelles. Our supplement begins on page 103.
This can also be an overwhelmingly stressful time too and I hope that we can help you get ‘Christmas All Wrapped Up’ with ideas for gifts, food and drink, days out and fashion from local, independent businesses which pride themselves on the quality, service and choice they offer. One of our favourite family activities, apart from decorating the tree, is a visit to find Father Christmas. We can help you with your search in the events section of the Christmas Guide. He certainly is busy visiting so many locations across the county. Find out more on page 57.
Finally, Steffie Shields on her gardening pages, has some bright and creative ideas on the theme of stars to add extra magic to your home.
From myself and all the staff at Lincolnshire Life we wish you a very happy and peaceful Christmas.
