Lincolnshire Life December 2019 - Digital Copy
What an action packed month we have had. Firstly, let me thank everyone who attended our Taste of Excellence Food, Drink and Hospitality Awards 2019 at the Engine Shed, Lincoln. The evening is the culmination of five months of nominations, cook-offs and judging. We have a full report with results and photographs for you beginning on page 61 but I must personally thank all our staff, sponsors, judges and participating businesses without whom this competition would not be possible.
Kate Chapman interviewed Sleaford based RAF Corporal David Morris, who was recently appointed vice-captain of Team UK for the 2020 Invictus Games, to be held in The Hague next May. Read more on page 26.
I spent the day with 4 (Lincolnshire) Company, 3rd Battalion, the Royal Anglian Regiment, at Wathgill Camp, Yorkshire. These Army Reservists from our county all have day jobs as well as their role in the military. I went to find out more about the skills and opportunities the experience offers. My story begins on page 118.
We hope we can keep you company during the festive season with not only our stories but also tips to survive the marathon. Rachel Green, the celebrity chef, has some wonderful prompts for entertaining your guests as well as a recipe for Celebration Game Pork Pie. Dominic Franks has a delicious dessert for you to make – Lattice Mince Pie Tray Bake – from Belleau Kitchen, and Nikki Bawn tells us about Festive Food Folklore, with a recipe for gingerbread, which kids are sure to love too.
The Diary is packed with events and shows taking place this month which we hope will be full of seasonal atmosphere. Our guide includes Where to Find Santa; he has a busy time ahead as you can see on page 116.
We shall be at the Food & Gift Fair at Lincolnshire Showground on 29th–30th November and 1st December. Do come and say ‘hello’ if you are there. You can still order gift subscriptions for Lincolnshire Life and The Lincolnshire Poacher at the show, on our website or by calling 01522 689671.
Finally, all of us at Lincolnshire Life wish you a very Happy and Peaceful Christmas.
