Lincolnshire Life June 2019 - Digital Copy
Welcome to our June issue, which always kicks off summer in our glorious county for me.
Luckily we have had some weather which shows promise, so we have already dipped our toes in at the Coast. I was honoured to be the first passenger to ride, in warm sunshine, on the Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway in their 10th anniversary year at Skegness. Read more about my visit, the history of this volunteer run attraction and their start of season events this month beginning on page 36.
This Summer in Lincolnshire edition has plenty of ideas for days out, places to stay and eateries which offer a welcome break for refreshments.
There is an opportunity during June to visit the grand house featured on our front cover. Jane Keightley’s feature on Harlaxton Manor, near Grantham delves into its origins and its glorious interiors. Read more starting on page 50.
Kate Chapman brings us a preview of Wild Bill. The new police drama filmed in Boston is due to begin airing on ITV this month and is sure to put the market town in the spotlight. You will find Kate’s story on page 32.
Doddington Hall appointed their first artist in residence last year. I interviewed Dominic Parczuk, whose solo exhibition in the Gallery in the Stable Yard starting on 15th June will feature paintings inspired by the Hall and estate.
It’s also show season and our staff will be ready to say ‘hello’ to visitors at Brocklesby Country Fair on Sunday 16th June and Lincolnshire Show on Wednesday and Thursday 19th and 20th June.
Our marquee at Lincolnshire Show is on Avenue 10, alongside the Discovery Zone and we are delighted to be welcoming the Visit Lincoln team as our partners, as they launch a new food and drink membership organisation, called Taste Lincolnshire, in the county. Come along to enter our fabulous competitions and there may even be the chance to sample some delicious Lincolnshire produce.
Finally, we have a teaser on our front page to win tickets for each of the headlining D-Day 75 Concerts at the International Bomber Command Centre, Lincoln. Read more about the line-up on page 80 and be sure to get your entries in promptly. The concerts are on 8th and 9th June.
Enjoy your month.
