Lincolnshire Life March 2017 - Digital Copy
The first signs of spring are showing in the garden and Steffie Shields is encouraging us to use the season to consider how ornamentation can enhance vistas and gateways, not only to frame planting but also lift the sense of place and occasion. You will feel inspired to invest when you have read this month’s gardening feature on page 26.
More dynamic county people appear on our pages too. Kate Chapman has been talking to Para-Dressage rider Julie Frizzell. Julie took on a former racing thoroughbred and is now on the cusp of international acclaim in partnership with Namibian. Their story begins on page 112.
Scunthorpe born heart surgeon Professor Stephen Westaby recounts remarkable stories from his eminent career in a memoir reviewed by Yusef Sayed on our Bookshelf page. Professor Westaby describes in frank detail the painful realities of being a pioneer of groundbreaking techniques.
Kate also interviewed voiceover artist Liz Drury. Liz manages a global career from her home studio in the county. Read more on page 32.
We have plenty of gorgeous ideas for spring weddings and fashion this issue. I thoroughly enjoy visiting our fashion advertisers and having a preview of their collections. I spent a morning at Cindy’s of Sutton Bridge with two of the Miss Lincolnshire 2017 finalists who modelled occasionwear by John Charles and Condici. I also visited Simpsons Boutique Spa at Branston Hall with my daughter to experience a spa day for two; a perfect package of therapies and indulgence for friends and couples wanting to relax and spend quality time together.
Finally, Mothering Sunday will be celebrated on 26th March. Our Dining Out section features local pubs and restaurants promoting their special menus. Be sure to book early to secure a table for the whole family. If you prefer to celebrate at home, Dominic Franks gives you a delicious chicken recipe from his Belleau Kitchen while Rachel Green has contributed a perfect recipe for dessert; a raspberry Bakewell tart which is both easy to prepare and sure to be a lunchtime hit.
We hope you have a fabulous month.
