Lincolnshire Life March 2020 - Digital Copy

We certainly have a spring in our step this month – it must be something in the air.

There is plenty for our green fingered readers with Steffie Shields looking on page 26 at some ‘unforgettable’ blue flowers which are heralds of the forthcoming season.

I had the pleasure of interviewing professional gardener and TV presenter Charlie Dimmock. Charlie will be at the Downtown Garden Centre later this month to help judge their garden design competition. Charlie gave some inspiring tips for designing a small garden which I share on page 30. There is also still time for you to put pen to paper with your own entry. The competition closes on 8th March.

Kate Chapman’s articles both follow up on distressing and challenging stories from recent months. Market Deeping Model Railway Club made national headlines last year when their displays and equipment were vandalised ahead of their annual exhibition. Donations flooded in, including a substantial amount from model rail enthusiast, Sir Rod Stewart. Kate explains how the club is ‘back on track’ ahead of exhibitions planned for April and May. Read more on page 98.

Henry Ward is the young chap, just setting out on his first season of farming, whose land was flooded when the Eau burst its banks at Short Ferry. Kate heard how Henry has been campaigning and repairing, to get his land drained and productive in the future. His story begins on page 112.

New season fashion collections are arriving daily in stores across the county. It is one of the pleasures to look forward to when you can leave those winter woollies in the wardrobe. When I visit an independent fashion retailer I thoroughly enjoy that help is on hand to make it a personal shopper experience; encouraging you with suggestions – even creating a complete look with accessories for a special occasion. Take a friend along too, for a second option. If you are planning a wedding, our supplement has fashion for the bride and mother of the bride, as well as desirable venues in beautiful locations across the county. Happy shopping.

Finally we have a packed Diary with details of events across the county, to encourage you to shake off the last of the winter weather and be out and about.

Wishing you a thoroughly enjoyable March.
