Lincolnshire Life May 2018 - Digital Copy
We are unashamedly celebrating spring this month.
Steffie Sheilds kicks off the theme with her feature ‘Darling Buds’ which begins on page 48. Watching out for those first hints of vivid green hedgerows and bursting leaf buds is sure to lift the spirits and I always watch out for that day in May, while I am driving in the county, when nature is at its most vibrant. I will make sure I have a camera ready.
Our Homes and Gardens section is packed with ideas for improving your property and outdoor spaces. The variety of exceptional businesses we have in the county to help you with these projects is truly impressive and inspires me to take the plunge and get on with those long awaited renovations.
Glynis Fox and I have visited Louth, the gateway market town to the Wolds. The town is a magnet for visitors from the coast and across the county for a leisurely day out. Glynis has been to meet some of those independent businesses which define the variety and quality of the town’s retail streets. I visited Lucks of Louth to catch up with their new collections of footwear and fashion for spring and summer. Shortly after I went to meet the team at Louth Men’s Shed, a community project based at Thames Street. The Shed, which is open three days a week at present, has an impressive workspace packed with tools and equipment for members share their skills as well as fabricate a range of products. Read more on page 68.
Kate Chapman talked to the owners of Field Farm, Mumby who offer horse owners the chance to bring their equine friends on holiday to the Lincolnshire coast. We have some great images of horses and riders splashing through the surf – a dream come true for many equestrian enthusiasts. Kate’s feature begins on page 176.
It is also time to remind you that nominations for our annual ‘Taste of Excellence’ Food, Drink and Hospitality Awards 2018 are now open. There is a form inserted into this issue and you can vote online at www.lincolnshirelife.co.uk Entries are already mounting so when you are out and about in the sunshine visiting eateries, tea shops or pubs, be sure to let us know your favourites.
We hope we give you plenty of exciting ideas to make the most of a glorious May.
