Lincolnshire Life October 2019 - Digital Copy
THESE autumn days are to be savoured and we haven’t wasted the opportunities to be out and about again across the county.
Two very different inspirational county people for you in this issue from Kate Chapman. Firstly she interviewed water skiing champion, Rob Hazelwood. If the name rings a bell that is because he is the nephew of Mike Hazelwood, world record and title holder. Rob lives and trains in Lincoln and Kate caught up with him as he prepares to move up to the U21 category. Read more on page 48.
Printmaker Sinclair Ashman has recently returned to his home in the county from a summer residency in America. On page 88 you can discover how he creates his evocative abstract works.
A major new exhibition, Victoria and Albert: Treasures from a Royal Marriage opens at The Collection and Usher Gallery on 5th October. Lord Cormack, chairman of the Historic Lincoln Trust gave Lincolnshire Life a preview of some of the magnificent objects and paintings which have been loaned by the V&A. Lord Cormack is also busy working on a solution to retain the Usher Gallery and its collections for the city. He is hoping to have an update on progress he can share with us in the near future.
Another group who are out and about at present are our Taste of Excellence judges. We received thousands upon thousands of nominations this year so thank you for your enthusiasm in sharing your hidden gems and favourite establishments. The judges will have a very busy few weeks as our awards evening is on Thursday 7th November. Before then we also have the cook-offs for our Young Chef and Chef of the Year. These are amongst the most coveted of the categories and the finals take place this month. We wish all the entrants the best of cooking! If you would like to come along to the Awards Night, which is held at The Engine Shed, Lincoln tickets are now on sale for what promises to be an exciting and entertaining evening. Our theme is Moulin Rouge and there are more details about menus etc on page 76.
Finally, our Autumn Farming supplement is included in this issue. Time to celebrate some of the rich harvest and fabulous produce of the county especially on 1st October when we celebrate Lincolnshire Day.
