Lincolnshire Life September 2019 - Digital Copy
September is one of my favourite months – those lingering days when it is a pleasure to enjoy the last of the sun’s warmth and rich autumn colours beginning to add fire to scenery and gardens.
Steffie Shields has picked up the same theme on her gardening pages this month with recommendations for low maintenance shrubs which will add heart-warming colour this season. Read her feature on page 26.
This is an outstanding month for festivals and events across the county. Our cover image heralds this year’s Stamford Georgian Festival. Burghley House is an impressive backdrop but the beautiful architecture of the town provides the venues and streetscape for a wide programme of entertainment. This year’s theme is ‘Age of Wonder and Invention’ and we have more details on page 116.
Kate Chapman caught up with Stamford illustrator Katie Cardew who has recently launched a map of the town aimed at supporting the Shop Stamford Movement. Katie’s designs also feature on a range of cards, mugs and prints which she will be promoting at this year’s Burghley Land Rover Horse Trials. We have a competition in this issue to win a pair of season tickets to the Trials. Hurry and get your entry in because the closing date is Wednesday 28th August.
If you take interest and pride in the heritage of our county you will be spoilt for choice visiting those venues taking part in the 25th anniversary year of Lincolnshire Heritage Weekends and the inaugural Wolds and Coast Churches Festival. It will be the chance for every member of the family to discover hidden treasures and iconic buildings which may not be open all year round.
The Lincoln Book Festival opens on 24th September with a programme theme honouring the bicentenary of the birth of Queen Victoria. You will find more information on page 126.
Finally, we have a supplement brimming with ideas for autumn fashion, weddings, health and beauty. If you are planning your special day, now is the ideal time to explore the choice of beautiful wedding venues in Lincolnshire. Our county fashion independents are experts at helping you reinvent your style and wardrobe for the months ahead and they can dress the whole wedding party to boot.
It promises to be a busy month!
