Thonock Park is top choice for golfers

Set in 450 acres of glorious Lincolnshire countryside near Gainsborough, Thonock Park is home to two outstanding 18-hole courses, both of which have undergone major renovations in recent months.
This highly-rated venue, which has also benefitted from major refurbishments to its facilities, provides eight boutique guest rooms and excellent clubhouse food and beverage offerings, with panoramic views across the courses.

Owned by PING, which has its European headquarters close by, Thonock Park’s traditional, parkland golf course opened in 1894 and was revamped by former Ryder Cup player, Brian Waites, in 1985.

“PING is proud to invest in Thonock Park and the golf courses year on year. We are continuing to enhance the facilities and are recognised as a leading venue in the county,” says General Manager, Ben Hatch.

“We have two very different and contrasting golf courses and four sets of tees to suit all abilities, with an additional fifth set aimed at helping to introduce beginners and juniors into the game.

“Thonock Park, our tree-lined, parkland course, with short tee-to-fairway carries, is ideal for more precise golfers, or for those starting out in the game. Our Karsten Lakes course, which opened in 1997 and has recently undergone major upgrades by architects Swan Golf Design, was designed by renowned PING player, Neil Coles, and is more challenging, with wide fairways but longer holes – so great fun to test your driver.”

Major upgrades to both courses include redesigned bunkers that feature the highest quality sand, similar to that used by tour-style courses. Karsten Lakes has also benefitted from newly shaped putting green surrounds and extra drainage in these important areas.

Open to both members and visitors, Thonock Park offers a packed and vibrant social calendar, which is very popular with local residents and those from further afield.

Members enjoy a range of benefits, including unlimited access to the golf course, preferred tee times and preferential pricing on hotel rooms, food and drinks and the driving range, as well as clothing from the on-site professional shop.

“Our large, two-storey clubhouse features several private and interconnecting function rooms, so we are able to accommodate various sizes of events, making it ideal for private parties, weddings, or large corporate golf days,” says Ben.

The club prides itself on supporting many ‘Get Into Golf’ initiatives for those wishing to try the sport and also has a strong junior academy.

“Following a complete refurbishment, Thonock Park now offers the latest video coaching technology in our brand new swing studio and we have three PGA professionals coaching golfers of all levels,” says Ben. “The PING Academy is ideal for golfers wanting to improve their skills and we also organise unique PING experience days, which includes a tour of PING HQ and their state-of-the-art factory.”.
