Gundogs on show
A unique opportunity to see more than 20 gundog breeds under one roof will be made available to visitors this summer, when the ever popular Sporting Dog Pavilion returns to The Game Fair.
Headed up for the fourth consecutive year by gundog breeder and trainer Neil Rice, the marquee will feature familiar favourites and some more unusual breeds when The Game Fair returns to Ragley Hall in Warwickshire from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th July.
“This year we have representative breeds from each of the four main gundog subgroups: retrievers, spaniels, setters and pointers – and HPRs (hunt, point and retrieve),” explained Neil. “Some of them, like the Labrador retriever and the English springer spaniel, will be very familiar, but we will also have many examples of British minor breeds as well as some very interesting European and North American gundogs. It is not often that you get the chance to see German shorthaired pointers sandwiched between Irish water spaniels and Nova Scotia duck tolling retrievers.”
The gundogs will all be accompanied by their experienced owners, handlers and breeders, giving visitors to The Game Fair a chance to learn about how they work and understand their temperament and characteristics. Some of the dogs will also be taking part in various competitions and demonstrations in the Working Dog Ring.
An active and enthusiastic participant in field sports for over 40 years as a keen game shooter and stalker, Neil works on a large shooting estate in the Midlands and runs his own fieldsports photography business too.
He added: “This is my fourth year of looking after the Sporting Dog Pavilion and each year we strive to give our visitors a wonderful opportunity to understand how the dogs that accompany us in the shooting field not only make our sports possible but also provide us with that truly loyal companionship that can really brighten up our lives.”
