Royal Air Force Championships 2017
RAF College Cranwell once again hosted the Royal Air Force Championships which included the Loriners Class, being the final part of the three leg competition – the Army and Navy each having also hosted a part.
The RAF leg of the Loriners is normally dressage, showjumping and cross country, but this year it had a slight twist with the pure showjumping class and separate cross country changed for an ‘eventer challenge’ which comprised a combination of showjumping and cross country fences. The series was declared a draw as the RAF and the Army both finished on nine points creating a tense end to one of the most exciting and challenging Loriners in a while.
On the Saturday afternoon it was all eyes to the RAF Cranwell Polo pitch as the Army Reserves and RAF Cranwell played the polo exhibition match. After an exhilarating battle it was RAF Cranwell with a clear 6-3 win.
Overall the two-day event, held over the weekend of 23rd–24th September, was a lovely show of equestrianism by the forces as the Royal Air Force, Army and Navy showed true sportsmanship.
