Description

Myself and everyone in our team here at Lincolnshire Life hope you were able to enjoy a relaxing and peaceful Christmas. As we go to print with the first issue of a new year it is hard to predict what the first weeks of 2022 will hold in store but above all we hope you have stayed safe and well. Our ambition is always to entertain and inform you with stories from our endlessly fascinating county, so please sit back and enjoy this latest issue.

Our cover image is by Daniel Rollitt and is one of the beautiful, winning photographs from the 2021 Lincolnshire Gardens Trust Photographic Competition. You can see all the results on page 26.

If you were snapping images in your own garden last year we have a competition which will inspire you. Did you photograph a dream scheme, grow some brilliant blooms or have a rose perfumed pergola? Downtown Garden Centre, Grantham are looking for your images of garden scenes, planting or features which utilised products from their store in your garden in 2021. Turn to page 29 for full details.

Kate Chapman has interviewed two enterprising local families for us this month. Firstly, two generations of the Brocklebank family, who run a reclaim and antiques business based in Louth. With interest in salvage and upcycling never higher, their collections range from clothing and collectables to ironmongery and furniture. Plans recently have included opening a mini-salvage yard in an adjacent property. Read more on page 40.

Kate’s second article, on page 64, features Mark Glew and his family, who have built an exciting venture in the Isle of Axholme, growing a diverse range of fresh produce.

Colin Smale’s words and photographs perfectly capture the wild beauty of winter on page 114. Despite climate change we have already had our first dustings of frost and snow this winter and migratory birds and shorter days remind us that nature is still governed by the seasons.

Finally, I must welcome our new subscribers to Lincolnshire Life. An annual subscription is a welcome gift which keeps on giving throughout the year as the latest issue arrives through the letterbox. There are annual subscriptions to The Lincolnshire Poacher too, which can be booked online or by calling our office when we return from our festive break from 4th January onwards.

Wishing you a very happy New Year.
