Description

Welcome to our June issue, in which we are celebrating a Platinum Jubilee Summer. The four-day bank holiday to mark the Queen’s 70-year reign will get the season off to a flying start and we have plenty for you to explore and enjoy during the long weekend and in the weeks to follow.

Across the county there will be beacons, one of which will be lit at the International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln, picnics in public spaces such as the Lincoln Castle grounds, and proclamations by town criers. Many communities, businesses and attractions are staging their own associated events, from themed afternoon teas to competitions and street parties.

Lincolnshire Life will be joining in the fun on our stand at the Lincolnshire Show on 22nd and 23rd June. The Lincolnshire Agricultural Society is planning to decorate the showground with UnionJacks and majestic purple bunting, and exhibitors and people attending are invited to follow suit. We will be joined this year by our friends from Downtown Grantham, who are offering you a chance to win a luxurious Ibiza corner set of garden furniture worth £2,299. Visit our stand, DZ16, on Avenue 10 to enter this or one of our other wonderful competitions detailed on page 91.

One of the highlights of the past month for us has been the entries we received for the Platinum Pudding Competition launched in our April issue. Thanks to everyone who submitted their recipes. Our judges faced difficult decisions when it came to shortlisting three. I offered to recreate these at home to test the recipes and for the final tastings. Our winner, with her Queen’s Hat celebration cake, was Elizabeth Lewis. Well done, Elizabeth! How appropriate that you and the monarch share the same name.

The runners-up were Sue Gray, with her Sticky Ginger Cake, and Rosanna Benn, who created a chocolate and meringue inspired Crown Pudding. The ladies have won a range of baking equipment courtesy of KitchenAid and Downtown Grantham. If you are planning a special Platinum Jubilee tea with family and friends, we have included the recipes from page 60 onwards so happy mixing and baking. You are bound to impress with these delicious sweet treats.

Finally, we raise our own three cheers for the Queen…

Hip Hip Hooray!
