In memory of HM The Queen

Following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, we share some of our county’s treasured memories and tributes from past and present.

1) The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh on a visit to the Royal Air Force College in Cranwell in June 1970. Pictured with the Commandant, Air Marshal FD Hughes.

2) A visit by Her Majesty to Cranwell in May 1975 saw the presentation of the new Queen’s Colour for the RAF College.

3) The Queen visits South Humberside in July 1977 receiving a warm reception on arrival at Grimsby’s Royal Dock as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations.

4) The Queen walks around the Brigg Fair Pageant on 12th July 1977, taking a special interest in the horses.

5) In November 1980, The Queen, accompanied by the Dean of Lincoln, the Very Revd Oliver Fiennes and Prince Philip with the Bishop of Lincoln, the Rt Revd Simon Phipps at the conclusion of a special service in Lincoln Cathedral before being driven to the County Assembly Rooms for lunch.

6) September 2022: Tim Strawson, High Sheriff of Lincolnshire, reads out the proclamation of King Charles III on the steps of Lincoln Cathedral. The crowd cheered ‘God save the King’ and sang the new national anthem.

7) September 2022: The proclamation of the death of Queen Elizabeth II and the ascension of King Charles III to the throne was made by Deputy Lieutenant Francis Dymoke in Horncastle’s Market Square.

8) The best English rose: In celebration of 70 years since The Queen’s accession to the throne in 1952, the new David Austin rose ‘Elizabeth’ was unveiled earlier this year. 
