Grimsthorpe Speed Trials

It was a day bathed in glorious sunshine, with more than 1,000 spectators enjoying the action at Grimsthorpe Castle.

The entries of pre-war cars and bikes went really well on the day in near perfect conditions. Mel Hart, one of the organisers, even had a surprise drive on the track behind the wheel of an Austin 7 Ulster belonging to Ian Bancroft.

Speed Trials founder Richard Powell, who passed away in 2022, was remembered with the first presentation of a cup in his name for the most authentic driver or rider of the day, judged according to appearance. Edward Strange, representing main sponsors RBC Brewin Dolphin, presented the Richard Powell Cup to Graeme Hardy, who everyone agreed certainly looked the part!
