Welcome to March, when the winds blow, the daffodils wave, the chicks hatch and the sun begins negotiations while the snow still threatens. Surely that must mean it is clay pigeon shooting time and we have detailed a few things on these pages for both the enthusiast and the newcomer. Whatever your discipline, enjoy.
YOUNG SHOTS DAY
The Clay Pigeon Shooting Association has announced a series of Young Shots Days throughout the country, welcome news to many judging by the popularity of these events in 2012.
In association with various grounds CPSA is organising a number of these exciting days for the 2013 Easter Holidays which fall between 22nd March and 15th April depending upon where you are in England and Wales.
These Young Shots Days are a great introduction to Clay Pigeon Shooting, or a useful refresher for those youngsters who have had a go once or twice before. Prices start at £40 per person and include a half day’s instruction with Qualified Instructors, clays and cartridges, use of a suitable shotgun, lunch and refreshments.

WANT TO TAKE UP CLAY PIGEON SHOOTING?
Perhaps you are a little over age for a Young Shots Day? Well don’t let that put you off, as there are many keen clay pigeon shooters willing to show you the ropes.
In Lincolnshire we have some of the best in the world so if you want to tap into their knowledge, skills and experience why not start by talking to Lincolnshire Clay Pigeon Shooting Association secretary, Alison Dupree? She will be pleased to hear from you on 01652 688262.
WHERE TO SHOOT? WHY NOT TRY… LINCOLN TARGET SHOOTING CLUB
A progressive shooting club, but also a well-established one, Lincoln Target Shooting Club was originally based at Lincoln Liberal Club, but now has a new building.
The club caters for air pistol and air rifle, both .177 calibre with six firing points with auto target changers. Thus the facilities are excellent for all classes and disciplines.
Lincoln Target Shooting Club has both pistols and rifles available for new members and offers a warm welcome to total novices, as well as those with more experience. The club also offers coaching for both disciplines, if required.
LTSC is a fast growing club catering for young and old and the current membership ranges in age from 9 to 70. Pentathlon and Pony Club members are more than welcome.
As well as ensuring safety and correct teaching, the club is mostly for people who enjoy the sport of shooting and gives every encouragement for members to compete in local and national competitions.

KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR DOGS
There are concerns that a number of dog thefts in Hampshire could mean an alarm call for the rest of the country.
Thames Valley Police have said that the spate of dog thefts and rural crime in the Thames Valley area is believed to be the work of organised criminal gangs.
Chief inspector Simon Dodds, Andover district commander and strategic lead for rural policing in the Hampshire Constabulary, explained: “In December we saw a worrying series of these offences, the circumstances surrounding which indicated the involvement of organised crime groups.This included the targeting of specific breeds of working dogs housed in outdoor kennels, the use of high-powered off-road vehicles, and links between offences across a large geographic area covering neighbouring counties.
“Without doubt, key to progress has been information given to us by the public. From vigilant members of our rural communities reporting suspicious vehicles and behaviour, to people who know something about those involved and the impact these terrible offences have on the dogs’ owners, I can’t stress enough the importance of keeping this information coming in.”
Canine welfare groups have voiced concerns that this could spread to other parts of Britain and here in Lincolnshire there are many working dogs, so they have issued a warning to keep an eye on your working dogs especially.
