Iconic Wonky House opens after restoration
One of Lincoln’s most recognisable historic buildings has been given a new lease of life, with visitors now able to stay inside the city’s famous “Wonky House”, which is owned and cared for by Heritage Lincolnshire.
No. 40 Michaelgate has officially opened its doors as holiday accommodation following an extensive programme of repair and restoration.
Dating back to the 16th century, the grade II listed timber-framed building is one of the city’s most distinctive landmarks, with its charmingly irregular shape making it instantly recognisable.
No. 40, the Wonky House, is now available to book, with No. 42 set to follow once its restoration and furnishing are complete.
The £570,000 restoration project was supported by a £350,000 grant from the Architectural Heritage Fund, a £110,000 grant from Historic England, and City of Lincoln Council, which contributed £86,000 towards the cost of the works.
