Description

This month we’re celebrating summer in Lincolnshire and the pleasures of exploring all that our county has to offer.

Steffie Shields travelled to Rasell’s Nurseries in Little Bytham to meet horticulturalist Claire Rasell, a passionate plantswoman with an exceptional artist’s eye (see page 22).

from a generation of nurserymen and women who are dedicated to creative horticulture and a love of plants plays a big part in Claire’s DNA. Her theatrical scene-setting evolves constantly and she goes to extraordinary lengths to find the right plant for the right place, with stunning results throughout the seasons.

Claire and her team and be inspired!

Keeping with the artistic theme, Kate Chapman caught up with Lincolnshire-born artist Fraser Scarfe, who accompanied the King and Queen on a four-day state visit to Italy earlier this year (p.26).

Fraser was invited to capture key and personal moments during the monarch’s visit and was also among the team of official artists in attendance at the King’s Coronation in May 2023, when he used an iPad to sketch various scenes during the historic day.

“The King is a keen artist himself, it feels like he really cares about supporting artists and is generally interested in what we do through drawing and painting,” says Fraser.

“For me, it’s been a real honour witnessing these historic moments first-hand.”

Another talented creator featured within our pages this month is Louise Wright, who combines farming life with designing a unique range of gorgeous handmade originals for Fred & Emily Jewellery, made from recycled silver and gold (p.40).

Louise explains: “My jewellery represents all these different parts of our lives. It’s about remembering how you feel and who you are when you wear it.”

And finally, don’t miss our special Lincolnshire Afternoon Tea Trail, which highlights some of the great places around the county offering delicious sweet and savoury treats (p.47).

Whether you’re heading for the coast, a nearby town, or exploring the countryside, treat yourself to some classic teatime delights.

However you plan to relax and enjoy this summer, savour every moment and make the most of getting out and about – see you next month!
