Description

Welcome to our June issue, in which we look forward to the many exciting events taking place throughout the county this month, beginning with our Summer in Lincolnshire special.

Once again the Lincolnshire Life team will be hosting a stand at the Lincolnshire Show on 19th and 20th June. Do come and meet us at our marquee on 10th Avenue, where you’ll also find a selection of Lincolnshire Flag merchandise and receive a complimentary copy of the magazine. Also, don’t miss your chance to win a wheelbarrow hamper loaded with products from both the Downtown Garden Centre and Downtown store, courtesy of Downtown, Grantham, as well as a fabulous Char-Broil Gas2Coal Barbecue.

June is a historic month for our county, as we mark the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings on 6th June 1944 with a fascinating feature by Phil Bonner from Aviation Heritage Lincolnshire, reflecting on Lincolnshire’s role in D-Day (see page 78).

Stepping back even further in history, Jane Keightley charts the incredible story of Captain Matthew Flinders, the Lincolnshire explorer credited for naming Australia, who will be reburied in his home village of Donington in July (p.98).

Kate Chapman recently caught up with aviation photographer Lisa Harding, who combines her passion for history and storytelling in a unique way (p.40). Lisa has flown alongside some of the world’s most famous aircraft, but it is the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) which holds a special place in her heart. Lisa’s work is celebrated in a special new book featuring more than 300 of her photos highlighting these iconic aircraft. She says she will never stop telling these stories, to help keep them in the public eye. “Lest we forget – that’s what it’s all about.”

This issue also sees the launch of our Taste of Excellence Awards for 2024. You will find a nomination form in the magazine, so you can let us know who your favourites are across the county’s food, drink and hospitality sectors. Alternatively you can vote online via our website. All votes must be in by 31st August.

So whether you’re planning to explore our county capturing memorable moments on camera, dining out at some of our fantastic restaurants or cafés, or taking time out at home, we are sure you will find plenty of inspiration in these pages.

See you next month!
