I am sure we are all glad to see the first month of spring arriving and, fingers crossed, the promise of much warmer weather. I know I am well and truly ready for some sunshine and plan to be out in the garden to make the most of it when it arrives.

Steffie Shields writes about her own ‘Strides of March’ and the pleasure she is anticipating in taking the meandering walks and pathways she had her husband, Mike, have created at The Old Orchard, their garden in a village near Grantham. Read more on page 22.

Colin Smale has captured on camera one of the joyful sights of spring: hares boxing and chasing in fields across the county. Their joie de vivre might have coined the phrase Mad March Hare but these handsome creatures inspire wildlife artists, country house interior décor and earn respect for their resilience and solitary lifestyle for most of the year. One of our town visits is to Horncastle and Barbara Young interviewed a couple based in the town who have taken the upheavals caused by the pandemic to launch the Wolds Refillery. David Lindsay and Fiona Whelan have turned their ambition to cut plastic waste into a business which is described as a ‘sustainable lifestyle store on wheels’. Find out more on page 74.

Mel Burton also brings us up to date on Lincoln’s high street and changing shopping opportunities. The city will be quick off the mark to welcome back shoppers and tourists as restrictions are eased including a refurbishment of Lincoln Market.

Kate Chapman interviewed city born actress Eliza Butterworth, a former pupil of Lincoln Minster School who has already carved out an international career as Lady Aelswith in the Netflix series The Last Kingdom. Read more on page 28.

Finally, although we may not be able to celebrate Mother’s Day this year by booking a table at our favourite local restaurant, there are wonderfully creative hospitality businesses who can deliver delicious treats and meals for you to enjoy at home.
