Description

Lincoln Cathedral’s doors were open for thousands of people mourning the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Our cover shows the flowers and portrait which formed the centrepiece around which candles of remembrance were lit. As we went to print, more than eight books of condolence had been filled and more than 10,000 candles lit.

Lincolnshire was fortunate to welcome the Queen on many, many occasions and our own tribute features pictures of the Queen’s visits to the county throughout her reign. Proclamation ceremonies for King Charles III were also held. We have included pictures of the Lincoln and Horncastle readings and there is a video of the historic ceremony in Lincoln in full on our Facebook page.

Despite the sadness we all experienced last month, we have been looking forward to a busy autumn with a packed Diary of events and excitement about our ‘Taste of Excellence’ Food, Drink and Hospitality Awards 2022. In this issue and across our social media channels we are announcing the Top Ten in each of the fourteen categories and our judges are now out and about. Our Awards Night is being held on Thursday 3rd November at The Drill, Lincoln. You can find full details on page 74.

Our county people interviews this month feature two well-known names from our television screens. Gardener Adam Frost, presenter on BBC Gardeners’ World, is based in the far south of the county. He is commencing a nationwide tour this autumn and has plenty of fascinating stories and expert gardening knowledge to impart to his audiences. Kate Chapman’s interview with Adam begins on page 44.

Susannah Constantine has led a colourful life but has very happy memories of a Lincolnshire childhood growing up with aristocratic neighbours on the Belvoir Castle Estate. Barbara Young spoke to Susannah about What Not To Wear which launched her as a household name and her forthcoming memoir, Ready for Absolutely Nothing.

Barbara will be taking over the reins as editor of Lincolnshire Life from our November issue. I will still be working alongside the great team here and I am sure making my contributions when Barbara allows. Thank you to all the wonderful people I have met while I have been in the editor’s chair. You really put the life in Lincolnshire and I will be joining you in celebrating Lincolnshire Day on 1st October.
