Welcome to our latest issue which is packed with entertaining and informative articles and inspirational supplements featuring wellness tips, dream wedding ideas and education advice.
Kate Chapman caught up with eminent historian Professor Tracy Borman OBE, on the eve of the publication of her new book about Queen Elizabeth I, to find out about her upcoming tour and the next series of Channel 5’s Inside the Tower of London (See page 28).
Tracy, who has been appointed chief historian for Historic Royal Palaces and is chancellor of Bishop Grosseteste University, is also giving a talk about The Stolen Crown: Treachery, Deceit and the Death of the Tudor Dynasty in Lincoln on 8th October, in between working on plans for more books.
It’s no surprise that she loves her busy life, which is immersed in history: “I’ve been so lucky – at school, history was the only thing I was any good at. Thankfully it all seems to have worked out!”
Meanwhile I enjoyed chatting to popular illustrator Emily Cole who specialises in humorous cartoons which perfectly capture the ups and downs of equestrian life (p.80). Emily studied architecture at the University of Lincoln and went on to work full-time in an architect’s office before making the decision to pursue her passion for creating illustrations based on her own equine and canine experiences.
She says: “With horses and dogs, I think the more seriously we take ourselves, the quicker we end up humbled! My aim is to stay relatable and to make more people smile!”
With September heralding “back to school” time, don’t miss our Education supplement, which highlights some of the premier establishments in the region (p.91). Steffie Shields says this is also a great time of year to explore inspirational gardens and recommends an outing to Springfields Festival Gardens in Spalding (p.22).
Steffie joined members of Lincolnshire Gardens Trust on a special visit where she met head gardener Andy Boynton, who shared memories and highlights from his rewarding horticultural career.
Autumn is also traditionally a time to plan ahead for that memorable wedding day. My Lincolnshire Wedding is full of great ideas for distinctive venues and suppliers (p.51).
Whatever you have planned, enjoy a special month!
