Description
Welcome to our June issue which celebrates the long-awaited arrival of warmer weather and longer days, highlighted by our cover image of the iconic carefree Jolly Fisherman. Since being unveiled in 1989, it has become a cheerful symbol for all that we love about traditional seaside destinations.
If you’re planning days out to explore all that our county has to offer, don’t miss our Summer in Lincolnshire special, which takes a look at some of the family-friendly events taking place this month.
Meanwhile, our Explore features also help you discover what’s new in North Lincolnshire and Grimsby, as well as along the Lincolnshire Coast. And don’t forget to come and see us on our stand at this year’s Lincolnshire Show on 17th and 18th June.
Among this month’s “good reads” are two very different creative talents, who share a dedicated and disciplined approach on the road to success in their chosen professions.
Kate Chapman caught up with Lincolnshire ballet dancer Ella Slingsby, who reflects on living her childhood dream and performing in leading productions all over the world.
In spite of a gruelling touring schedule, Ella remains passionate about her job: “I just love that feeling of pure joy when I’m on the stage. When you get a standing ovation, that feeling is the best!” (Find Kate’s feature on page 34.)
Environmental writer and journalist Clive Simpson is another who is passionate about his calling. In his recently published debut novel, Flood Waters Down, set in the drowned fenlands of south Lincolnshire, Clive explores the rising risk and effects of climate change. (p.96)
The book highlights what might happen “if the trends we are seeing continue”. However, Clive adds a brighter footnote: “While it is all a bit dystopian, there is still hope.”
It’s also time to launch the Taste of Excellence Awards 2026, this year celebrating its 30th anniversary. Nominations are now open, so don’t miss your chance to vote for your food and hospitality favourites – fill in the form in this issue, or via our website.
Have a great month!
