This past month has flown and it has been wonderful to have met so many more people in person rather than the Zoom experiences of the past months.

One of my most pleasant visits was to The Broadbent Theatre in Wickenby to meet a small group of the trustees and supporters. They were representing the much larger group of people who have used the lockdown periods to refurbish and rebrand the theatre ready for the 2021 autumn season. The curtain is now up on what promises to be an exciting programme. The theatre has a fascinating history and connections, so turn to page 110 to find out more.

As the winter weather approaches, Kate Chapman has been speaking to the volunteers behind the Lincolnshire Community Assistance

Team, known as L-CAT. The 100-strong group has members across a large portion of the county who respond to call-outs varying from search and rescue to first responding, to delivering meals to vulnerable people. The full story begins on page 48.

Barbara Young interviewed talented teenager Kallum Burrell from Wrangle, near Boston. Kallum was crowned double World Clay Pigeon Shooting Champion in July, just two years after taking part in his first competition. What an achievement! Read more on page 144.

As we well and truly enter the countdown to Christmas, this issue includes our first Gift Guide. All our retail clients tell us that the festive rush will begin early this year and best advice is to draw up your list and shop early. As a renowned last-minute shopper myself this has certainly concentrated my mind. Here you will find excellent and unusual gift and festive ideas from independent businesses across the county.

We have been busy counting your nominations for the Taste of Excellence 2021 Awards. Thank you to all the businesses who are getting on board too and keep those submissions coming in. The last date for nominations will be Friday 8th October after which our judges will be making their visits and deliberations.

Finally, 1st October is of course Lincolnshire Day. It is the perfect time to tuck into some outstanding Lincolnshire produce and get out and about in our wonderful landscapes. However you spend your Lincolnshire Day and the rest of the month, have a great October.
