Lincs Table – local food delivered with passion

Dave and Davina Symonds, the team behind Lincs Table, saw an opportunity to bring the finest, locally produced food to businesses in the county. Four years since opening in spring 2021, they are now based in new premises in Sleaford.

“Our love of local food stems back to Dave’s childhood, with his mother as head cook for a nearby school and his father’s and his own career as brewers at Batemans Brewery, Wainfleet,” said Davina. “We moved to east Devon for several years and were located just nine miles from Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage. We started to appreciate how much there is the need to preserve our local food heritage and businesses by using their products not only at home but also in commercial kitchens.”

A BRIDGE
Living back in Lincolnshire, the pandemic gave Dave and Davina time to consider what they would both really love to do for the next stage of their careers.

Combining their passion for food and Davina’s marketing skills, their business model was to deliver high-quality food and drink from local and artisan suppliers directly to retail and hospitality outlets.

“We wanted to offer something different, which meant we didn’t just want to be a supplier but to act as a bridge between our passionate producers and the restaurants, cafés and independent retailers who share this love for great tasting and sustainable products.”

HIGHER QUALITY OPTIONS
From this seed of an idea, the business has grown steadily. The couple both help identify products which will be suitable for their range, while Dave makes the deliveries and engages with the chefs and retail businesses they supply.

“I get such satisfaction from working with commercial customers to supply different and higher quality options”, said Dave. “Many of these ingredients and products are from smaller British and local Lincolnshire producers, that couldn’t or wouldn’t align with the requirements of big food distributors. That is where Lincs Table fits well, offering high quality, sustainable products, with less food miles incurred.

“Chefs are busy people and introducing new products from our range can be the inspiration for new ideas and dishes to include on menus. Davina and I take great satisfaction in seeing what is created by the hospitality businesses we supply.”

RECOMMENDATION
As the reputation and network that Lincs Table covers has grown, they receive recommendations from their clients for new products, as well as new producers approaching them as potential distributors.

Conrad Adams, the executive chef at Doddington Hall & Gardens appreciates the diversity as well as the quality of food and ingredients that Lincs Table delivers. “Dave and Davina have been outstanding in supporting us at Doddington Hall by sourcing exceptional local produce, including oils, cheeses and wild venison charcuterie for our cafés and restaurant,” Conrad said. “The partnership we’ve built with Lincs Table has been incredibly rewarding, and together we’re committed to delivering the highest quality offerings.”

POSITIVE IMPACT
As well as the satisfaction of delivering great products, Dave and Davina take pride in the positive impact their business can have financially in the local economy, and environmentally, by reducing food miles and by creating a more sustainable future for the industry.

Lincs Table began to deliver the cold pressed rapeseed oil produced by Riley Taylor from RG Taylor & Sons family farm in 2022. They had made the decision to diversify and Riley acknowledges the role Lincs Table has played in helping him sell and distribute his deliciously golden product throughout the county.

“Working with Dave and Davina at Lincs Table has helped us grow as a business massively,” he said.

“We produce rapeseed oil alongside running a farm full-time, so Lincs Table takes all the weight of spreading the word, sorting orders, and distributing all over Lincolnshire and beyond! I’m very thankful for Lincs Table and look forward to our future growing alongside them.”

AROUND 400 PRODUCTS
Lincs Table offers an impressive portfolio of products from local producers including Lincolnshire Poacher Cheese, Cote Hill Cheese, Seven Districts Coffee, Blue Sky Cheese, Sleaford Sausages, G Shearer & Sons (sausage rolls), Pocklington’s Bakery, Sharpes Honey, Oink Pork Scratchings, Greens & Good Stuff, Grain of Truth Bakery, Lincolnshire Tea & Coffee as well as Ruffingtons dog treats.

Some products which cannot be sourced within Lincolnshire are supplied by other artisan producers including Netherend Farm Butter, Crooked Pickle, Flawsome Drinks, Gusto Organic Drinks, The Real Cure Charcuterie, Fruit Pig Black Pudding, Yorkshire Pasta, The Fruity Kitchen preserves and Littlepod vanilla products.

“Quality products and reliable, knowledgeable service are at the heart of Lincs Table,” said Davina. “We work in partnership with our producers and customers to bring the best results for their business. The Lincs Table app makes ordering quick and easy and our friendly and free delivery service means busy kitchens and retailers get what they need, when they need it. We have added a range of food service products recently in response to demand, including catering beans, tomatoes, mushy peas, Spanish vinegars, pulses, pesto, gnocchi, bouillon, olives, antipasti, oils and chutneys.”
