So, here we are at the end of the year, a year of gold, silver, bronze and Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Success in front of the television cameras at both the Olympic and Paralympic Games has meant a surge in interest from all ages. While we enjoy the memories of 2012 let us look forward to the joys to come in 2013. Lincolnshire Clay Pigeon Shooting for instance has gone from strength to strength and has produced some great results and individuals. We already have an array of champions and the wave of new generation shooters means that there are some great champions waiting in the wings too. Could you be one of them?
SOMEWHERE TO SHOOT… REVESBY ESTATE
If you are looking for somewhere to shoot, why not try Revesby Estate between Horncastle and Boston? It is the home of many country activities and takes great pride in providing sport and leisure for visitors from near and far.

SEE YOU AT SPALDING
Don’t forget the British Association for Shooting and Conservation Indoor Roadshow at Spalding Exhibition Centre on Sunday, 16th December which is on for the entire day for the first time and is a welcome date in the Lincolnshire diary, after the loss of the British Shooting Show.

Trade stands will cover just about every aspect of shooting, conservation and the countryside from firearms to taxidermy and stick-dressing to cookery.

The New-Style Roadshow will open at 10am and close at 5pm. There will be two main halls, one will house all the trade stands and the other a new craft centre. It is recommended as an ideal event for those last minute Christmas gifts!

Of course there will be a BASC Membership Point with their insurance representative on hand to answer questions. For fun you can test your skills on the new Shooting Simulator, have a crack at the Indoor Laser Clay Pigeon Trophy Shoot, meet the celebrity guests or spend all day in the restaurant and bar if you wish.

Admission is £5 at the door with BASC Young Shots (bring your card) and under 13s free. BASC non-members are more than welcome and there is free parking. What more could you want?

NEW SHOOT IN THE COUNTY
A newly formed shoot on The Humby Estate in Lincolnshire promises to provide some top quality pheasant and partridge shooting (primarily partridge) with game covers and undulating lowland extending over 2,000 acres.

There are opportunities for teams of guns for 250+ bird days for traditional pheasant and partridge shooting.

The ‘Stubton and Humby Estate’ is split – with shooting on Stubton and Humby respectively.

There are mixed days available on The Humby part of the Estate. The shoot is currently run by headkeeper Malcolm Partridge, formerly of Belvoir Estate, and beatkeeper, Brett Clifford. Jointly Malcolm and Brett promise to provide good quality, traditional shooting and excellent hospitality.

Malcolm said: “We are pleased to be able to offer shooting on the Humby area of the estate, for what will be my first season here. I am looking forward to the start of the season and hope people will take advantage of the opportunity to shoot here with us.”

You will be greeted in the morning at 9am sharp for coffee in the shoot lodge. The day will also include a two course dinner at the end of the day cooked by the in-house team. Dinner will usually consist of a traditional offering and a classic pud!

How much? £30 a bird, including morning refreshments and dinner. Please note that we do not hold a licence to sell alcohol, so you will need to provide this yourselves – we are happy to accommodate with relevant glasses.

Some of the available dates include 6th and 20th December 2012 and 2nd and 17th January 2013.

TRY SHOOTING AN ARROW
Shooting comes in varied forms and one that is increasing in popularity again is archery. There are clubs all over the county and all ages taking part.

One such club is Grimsby Archers, which has a history of more than half a century in the Grimsby and Cleethorpes area. The club has a real mixture of members with longbows, recurves, compounds and a few others. Although Grimsby Archers is mainly a target archery club, there is a growing interest in field archery.

Members range in age from 10 to 72 and from absolute beginners to master bowmen. The facilities of the club include both indoor and outdoor ranges. If you have never done archery before, the club’s beginners’ courses are designed with you in mind. The courses are run four times a year.
