Description

Welcome to our February issue, which once again is packed with good reads and inspiring stories as we prepare to welcome the beginning of spring and brighter days ahead.
Our gardening guru, Steffie Shields, echoes our thoughts that it’s finally time to venture outside and “seize the day” with a plan to explore some of the stunning open gardens in our county (page 22).

This month is the perfect time to appreciate the stunning displays of early garden life such as snowdrops and ivy-leaved cyclamen which are popping up to help brighten our days. Check out Steffie’s suggestions of gardens to visit and treat yourself to a day out with an invigorating walk in the quietude of nature at its best.

Kate Chapman has also been talking to inspirational people in our county, including 21-year-old medal-winning canoeist Lucy Guest, who fought back from injury to be selected to represent her country (p.30).

Lucy, who describes the sport of canoeing as “addictive”, has set herself a number of goals for this year and aims to keep making the podium at wildwater events – we look forward to following her progress.

Another person following his passion and creative talent is professional film writer Ewen Glass, who has launched his own scriptwriting courses and mentoring services to help budding writers (p.78).

BAFTA member Ewen – who has written for major TV networks as well as the feature film Lies We Tell, starring Hollywood legend Harvey Keitel – is now helping other writers get involved in the film industry through his venture Lincoln Script Lab, which offers online and in-person courses.

It comes as no surprise when Ewen says that success and recognition don’t happen overnight, so would-be scriptwriters need resilience. But he points out: “Whether you’re 18 or 108, it’s an amazing experience discovering your voice on the page. And who knows, we may just discover the next big thing at Lincoln Script Lab!”

So, however you’re planning to spend time off this month, be it leafing though our glossy pages while snuggling on the sofa, exploring outdoors, or getting creative in front of a keyboard, our February issue aims to inspire you to make the most of quality downtime – enjoy a great read and see you next month!
