Description

This month we’re focussing on getting out and about and enjoying all that our county has to offer for visitors and locals alike.

Caroline Bingham went to meet metal sculptor Ian Gill at his Lincolnshire forge and discovered the story behind his 10 botanical inspired pieces which will be on display within Doddington Hall’s fabulous gardens this summer. Read more on page 80.

Meanwhile, Kate Chapman met up with Lincolnshire sisters Ginny Lunn and Sara Pease-Watkin, who have set up a travel company called Walking Women, which provides guided walking and activities breaks exclusively for small groups of women (p.34).

Always keen to promote the beauty of our local rural landscape, the duo, who grew up in Tattershall, have created walking holidays to showcase the Lincolnshire Wolds to new visitors.

Further south in the county, Steffie Shields spent the day at Yew Tree Farm, Rob and Claire Bailey-Scott’s inspirational award-winning garden in Gosberton (p.28).

The couple took over the derelict old farmhouse (which dates back to the 16th century) in 2008 and since then have worked tirelessly to restore this historic gem of a house and create a garden of their dreams. This stunning setting will be opening to the public on Sunday 28th July as part of the National Gardens Scheme (NGS) – don’t miss it!

No day out is complete without a visit to a local tearoom, where you can indulge in that quintessentially English summer treat: traditional afternoon tea.

If you’re planning to catch up with family or friends, take a look at our Afternoon Tea Tour supplement, which highlights some of the great places around the county offering delicious sweet and savoury treats to tempt your taste buds (p.61).

This summer, whether you’re heading for the coast, spending time exploring a nearby town, or enjoying the Lincolnshire countryside, make sure you take time to treat yourselves to some classic teatime delights, perfect to bridge that gap between lunch and a late dinner!

See you next month!
