Description

Welcome to our June issue in which I’m sorry to share the very sad news of the death of our much admired and valued colleague Geoffrey Manners, who has been at the helm of our title as managing editor since joining County Life Ltd with his wife Caroline Bingham in 2006. Geoff will be much missed by his many friends and all of us who had the pleasure of working with him. Read Caroline’s touching tribute to Geoff on pages 8 and 9.

As summer kicks in, we take a look at some of the fantastic events taking place across the county and also go out and about as we explore what’s new in North Lincolnshire and Grimsby (p.38), and along the Lincolnshire Coast (p.60).

Summer is also a perfect time to raise your style game in the fashion stakes. If you’re heading for a day at the races, or a special wedding, a gorgeous new hat can finish off a favourite outfit perfectly. Kate Chapman caught up with milliner Ian Bennett, who is well known for creating fabulous designs for clients, including royalty, famous faces and style-conscious mothers of brides (p.32).

This is clearly a man who adores his job of designing bespoke creations, as Ian says: “Millinery has never felt like a job to me – I love playing a part in people’s special days and making them feel fabulous.”

Another person who has transformed their passion and talent into a profession is our own food hero Dominic Franks. Regular readers will know Dom from his Belleau Kitchen recipe features and he is now excited to have his first cookbook published in June (p.54).

I chatted to Dom to discover what led to his huge social media following via his food blog Dom in the Kitchen and subsequent book deal with Dorling Kindersley. Reflecting on his year of opportunities, Dom says: “I want to share my joy of cooking with everyone and I hope they all enjoy it too!”

Don’t miss Dom’s demo and book signing at this year’s Lincolnshire Show and do pop by to meet the Lincolnshire Life team at our marquee (stand no 50 on 10th Avenue) where you’ll also have the chance to win some exciting prizes.

We look forward to meeting you!
