Description

We have a busy issue for you once again. Despite being in the third lockdown of this pandemic, we have a wonderful variety of stories from around the county to keep you entertained and informed this month.

Steffie Shields has been inspired by Lincolnshire Life’s forthcoming Diamond Anniversary. Her article is called ‘Diamonds are Forever’ and Steffie is looking for your suggestions of how this special milestone can be marked. We would love to hear your ideas. Read more on page 24.

Barbara Young spoke to Amanda O’Brien, one of Lincolnshire’s local regional co-ordinators at Fresh Start for Hens, which helps find new pet homes for commercial hens. If you have ever thought of keeping chickens Amanda’s story and knowledge will probably pique your interest even more (or should that be, will ‘egg’ you on? Sorry, I couldn’t resist). Barbara’s article begins on page 79.

Kate Chapman’s two interviews have been with former Grenadier Guardsman and retired police officer Neil Burton and singer/songwriter Holly Humberstone. Neil has gone back to one of his first loves – art – and has already built a considerable following for his wildlife and nature inspired pictures. See some of Neil’s work on page 34.

Holly, who was born in Grantham, has used the past year to build on her catalogue of songs and recordings already enjoyed by audiences, including the crowds at Glastonbury 2019. Read more on page 74.

We have included more listings and features about county businesses which are offering home delivery services or takeaway menus for food and drink during these challenging times. Acre and Apron is a new name offering outstanding beef and lamb reared locally by Beeswax Dyson Farming. Their feature includes a competition too, so turn to page 64 to see how to enter.

Our recipes are supplied by Sam Owen of Salted Orange, the Lincoln based catering company and Dominic Franks has a divine cake which will make a perfect Valentine’s Day gift for the one you love.

Finally our area visits are to Gainsborough as well as North and South Hykeham. Time may feel as though it is standing still for many of us some days but we have updates on exciting developments in these towns.

Stay safe and enjoy your month.
