A long-standing and familiar retail name on Bourne’s North Street is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary this year.
Concept, the giftware shop, has occupied this location for twenty-five years having started its business life in Recreation Road in 1983.

Founded originally by Ruth Stroud, Pauline Sheardown took over in 1996 before the partnership of Sharon Hood and Dena Edis ran Concept from 2002. Since 2006 Dena has been the sole proprietor, using her extensive experience in retail and the jewellery trade to widen the range of products and to source the best of British made high-quality toiletries, gifts, crockery, ornaments, cards and pictures.

Nationally admired brands such as Crabtree and Evelyn toiletries and soaps and Wax Lyrical scented candles and room fragrances are displayed alongside Hudson and Middleton china, stunning home ornaments and decorative gifts from Sia, Parlane and Gisela Graham. There are also some original items that you cannot find anywhere else such as paintings by local artists.

“I pride myself on offering really outstanding service to my customers,” Dena explained. “I enjoy solving people’s gift dilemmas, from husbands shopping last minute to tricky occasion buying. It is always very satisfying when you send a customer away happy.”

With the festive season fast approaching, Dena has been busy getting her Christmas ranges ready for display.

“We have lots of really exciting Christmas gifts and decorations this year. Many are by names that our customers already know and love but I have found some really interesting new suppliers too.

“There is a real trend for a more ‘craft’ inspired look to Christmas with buttons, ribbons and haberdashery used to embellish natural fabrics and prints.”

Dena acknowledges the debt she owes her clients: “I must thank all our loyal customers who I meet not only when they visit the shop but also those that I meet at events and during my seasonal visits to local sheltered accommodation and care homes.”

As part of the anniversary celebrations Dena will be holding an Open Night on Thursday 3rd October. Invitations are available on the counter or you can call 01778 424878 to receive yours. Dena will be offering special promotions at the event and on 4th and 5th October.

Join Concept to help them celebrate this special anniversary and get ahead with your gift shopping. Dena and her staff will offer a gift wrapping service to complete your Christmas purchases.
