In the recent Sunday Times Parent Power supplement, St Martin’s Preparatory School, Grimsby was named 13th best prep school in the whole of the UK and the best school (both state primary and prep) in the entire county of Lincolnshire.
Headmaster Stephen Thompson acknowledges the work of all his pupils, teaching and administrative teams in achieving this accolade. “The school has a history of excellent results but for a small, independent school this is exceptional.”

Founded in 1930, St Martin’s is a co-educational prep school in the heart of Grimsby. The school still adopts a traditional approach to learning with high standards for academic achievement and attitudes within the school community. In 2018 100% of St Martin’s pupils went on to grammar school after passing the entrance exams.

Small classes of under twenty mean teachers know every single pupil well and learning is personalised to ensure each child reaches their full potential. The school supports children with special educational needs but equally children who are gifted and talented are recognised to help them develop their talents. Last year one of the pupils achieved a Grade 8 in GCSE Maths.

Places at St Martin’s are available from 2 years old – because it’s never too early to give your child the very best education. These strong foundations from early on mean children make excellent progress.

While there may be plenty of focus on learning, there is also first-class pastoral care and enriching extra-curricular opportunities. The programme in place ensures this works alongside the school’s excellent academic provision to create well-rounded, kind and responsible pupils. There is a wide range of clubs and activities, with many sports played throughout the year, musical tuition and elocution. With so many opportunities and plenty of teaching talent, there is a genuine focus on the individual.

Education is an investment for every child’s future and St Martin’s Preparatory School has maintained affordable fees which provide value for money from as little as £23 a day.

Flexible bus routes mean that pupils from Lincoln, Louth, Barton and Brigg are able to get to the best school in the area easily. The routes are designed to suit parents and can be adjusted depending on where parents live.

Every parent would like their child to become an independent and confident learner in a caring, school family environment. This is what this small powerhouse of a school can bring to each and every child under their care.
