For now, this is the new “YFC normal”!
Last month I wrote about the way we were starting to adapt to lockdown and how strange it felt, this month it seems to be the new normal, as we all adjust to the virtual life!
Young Farmers’ Clubs are no exception. It’s true many of our farming members continue their usual day-to-day routine, but the thing they are missing is the social interaction that being a YFC member gives them after work – but we’ve adapted!
I echo what I’ve already said: thank goodness for technology and as our members are used to snapchatting, following, liking, tweeting and hashtags we’ve all embraced it! Using our #LincsYFCstayingconnected we have had more quizzes, bingo, virtual meetings, live DJ sets, with more in the planning including a ‘You’ve Been Framed’, online auction and our County Rally.
It feels a bit surreal that today as I sit at my computer writing this, it’s the day before what would have been our County Rally – there is no way I would have had time to sit at my computer! The County Rally is usually our biggest day of the year, where our members compete against each other to win the Rally cup. It’s fiercely competitive, a bit wild and lots of fun. But we’re not letting it pass this year without doing something, so instead we’re doing Lincs YFC Online Rally 2020.
We selected 13 exhibition classes and as entries close tomorrow, my inbox is filling up with all the wonderful creations, photos and videos. I hope to be able to share some with you next month and the winner of the new Covid Cup (members’ idea, not mine!). In honour of the greatest YFC day of the year, I’ve added my favourite photo from last year’s rally. I’m already excited for 2021.
We’ve also had some members continuing to do great work in the community, supporting those suffering from the impact of Covid-19. Well done to Wragby YFC who have volunteered to help at their local food bank. On Tuesdays and Thursdays each week, some of our members are helping, it’s an initiative set up by brilliant local charity Wragby ChEF. The Food Bank is open at Wragby Methodist Chapel every Monday and Thursday 11am-2pm for drop-offs and collections.
Some of our Horncastle YFC members are helping at the Stanhope Hall in Horncastle with the ‘For the love of scrubs’ project. Making scrubs, headbands and scrub bags for those working in the NHS and other sectors of the care industry, what a great initiative.
Who knows what next month will bring but stay safe and look out for our pigs when you are out and about, they’ve been repainted to show our appreciation for the NHS.

Food waste collections are coming to parts of Lincolnshire in early 2026 ♻️![]()

Here are the key things residents need to know:![]()
• New household food waste collections will start rolling out in phases from January and February 2026![]()
• If you’re in one of the first areas, you’ll receive food waste caddies and a guidance leaflet delivered to your home![]()
• The leaflet explains how the service works, what can go in your caddies, and when collections will start![]()
• All food items that are edible and inedible are accepted this includes items such as egg shells, meat bones, tea bags and so much more![]()
• The service is part of the Government’s Simpler Recycling changes![]()
• Not all areas will start at the same time – check your local district or borough council news channels for confirmed start dates![]()
• Food waste should be placed in the kitchen caddy using the supplied liners, then transferred to the outdoor caddy for collection![]()
• Collected food waste will be taken to an anaerobic digestion plant, where it will be turned into energy and fertiliser.![]()
Look out for your caddy delivery and make sure to keep an eye on local council updates so you know when the service goes live in your area.![]()
