With over 8,000 lots offered at our three auction rooms in recent weeks, the sold rate has been 90% plus, with some interesting highlights to note.

To motor things off, a 1988 DVLA registered Daimler Dart classic race car (150 DLA), decorated with red stripes; a well known car on the circuits in the hands of racing driver Piers Townsend.

True to its racing pedigree, it did not disappoint, crossing the line at auction for £8,750.

Gold continues to shine, outbidding previous highs, illustrated by a South African gold Krugerrand coin dated 1975, which sold for £2,600, and a George V 1917 full sovereign, finding a final bid of £640.

Herend Porcelain Manufactory was founded in Hungary in 1826, producing high-quality porcelain for the great and good of Europe. A large collection with a Herend Chinese Bouquet Green, or Apponyi Green, pattern was offered for sale at Lincoln and sold for a total of just over £5,000 across several lots.

Finally, a rare Polynesian Ceremonial spear (or to’o) sold at the Bourne Auction Rooms in September.

These spears originate from the Austral Islands of Rurutu and are characterised by a series of carved downward pointing snouts and high raised tails.

separates them from the many C19th decorative examples which regularly find themselves up for auction.

The combination of rarity and originality generated much pre-sale interest and keen bidding followed, with the spear finally selling for an impressive £58,000.
