Description

This month we’re celebrating the historic coronation of King Charles III with our five-page royal special which looks back at the “making of a monarch”.

Our archives mark a number of memorable royal visits to the county, and we document Lincolnshire’s many connections to coronations through its aristocratic and land owning families.

Whether you’re planning to attend in person, or enjoy a few hours watching the coverage from the comfort of your own home, Saturday 6th May is a chance to commemorate this special occasion.

One of the highlights of the day will be the appearance of the royal family as they step out onto the balcony at Buckingham Palace to watch a large formation of military aircraft for the RAF flypast, which includes the Red Arrows as featured on our front cover.

Kate Chapman caught up with aviation photographer Claire Hartley, who turned her hobby into a specialist photography business with the focus on many of our iconic aircraft (page 48).

Claire has taken numerous breath-taking shots of the Red Arrows in action, plus other well-known aircraft, some of which we’re looking forward to watching at the coronation celebrations.

Kate also interviewed animal sculptor Kevin Baumber, whose innovative welded designs, affectionately known as Welderbeasts, are proving popular as outdoor exhibits (p.36). Kevin creates large-scale sculptures of animals, including donkeys, dogs, horses and even a bull from sheet steel, which are proving a wonderful talking point.

If you’re looking for more garden inspiration, this month sees open garden days in aid of the National Garden Scheme.

Fotherby haven where a different world awaits exploration (p.26).

However you plan to enjoy the bank holidays this month, don’t miss the Lincolnshire Wolds Outdoor Festival which this year celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Wolds being designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The festival, which returns from 20th May to 11th June, provides the perfect opportunity to discover some exciting new activities.

We hope you enjoy this issue and see you next month!
