The August Lincoln Fine Art Auction consisted of 399 lots.

First on offer were two oil paintings by Fred Yates. Born in Urmston, Manchester in 1922, his works are often compared with Manchester’s most famous artist, LS Lowry. Certainly the works of Yates show the influence of Lowry.

Unlike Lowry, Yates left the North West in the late 1960s for the South West. This again influenced his work, as shown in the two paintings sold in the August auction.

From the early 20th century, a watercolour by Henry John Stock (1853-1930) of a young child, titled Wonder thought, exceeded expectations when the hammer fell at £1,100.

Works from the 18th century also featured, two oil on canvas paintings by Francis Sartorius (1734-1804), each a horse study – of Jenny Cutts and Pelham. Pelham was first to the post with a winning bid of £2,200.
