Pocket a pocket watch

Although the wearing of a pocket watch has all but fallen out of fashion, there is still no shortage of buyers at auction.
Prices are often influenced by the bullion market as watch cases can be made of silver and gold, but the design and detail of the movement still appear to attract buyers.

At this week’s Lincoln auction Lot 7, an early 20th-century open faced pocket watch with engraved fancy Roman numeric dial and case marked 14K, sold for £220.

Later in the sale Lot 298, a mid-C20th Omega Art Deco open faced pocket watch with blackened dial and chrome case, had what the collectors were looking for when the hammer fell at £700. Shortly after, Lot 301, a George III silver cased pocket watch hallmarked London 1818, with a novelty movement, found a final bid of £200.

If time is of the essence, then Lot 304, a Heuer Trackmaster chrome plated stopwatch had the bids ticking on to the finish line at £100.
